Today, I wish to be very small and stand beneath
green ivy as if it were a jungle canopy above my head.

brushes with death and life

I hope for hope and pray for prayers and dream for unforgotten dreams to brighten even the darkest of corners and feed color through smallest crevices, so the dust-oh-the-dust can bounce around in the light and make something beautiful even, even there.  Let the movement be for better and never ever for worse.

And then coming home to someone you love who has been away, or maybe you have been away, for so evenly long, feels like brushes with life instead of death.

Someday, I want to write a novel just to see if I can.

I sat eating delicious tilapia, broccoli, and an overstuffed baked potato, and told my dear friend, Ryan Lucchesi, about my ideas. We have rightfully reunited after two long years of not seeing each other, 'cept for one random encounter for a brief ten minutes somewhere in 2011 {which we both say, doesn't even count}.  And then we shared a lovely bread pudding in butter-rum sauce and Ryan, being Ryan, told me that I should write and pretty much, that I will write.  He always makes me smile and feel empowered.

In the past, I have made several beginnings, but with school or work or both at the same time, I never have found the time to make any solid progress.  But, someday, I would like to write pictures and try to be clever with words like all those brilliant authors I admire... and just see.

I received the book that Stephen Bobbett recommended to me years ago- a book of writing exercises that helped with beginnings.  So, that will be a nice.  And post-wedding, I feel quite sure that aside from being so incredibly happy to be living with Jason, I will also have many dream-lined goals to pursue.  And that is happy, too.

dream, dream

And someday, I want to work from home.  Making pretty things with ink and paint and slips of paper or fabric or lace that I've been saving forever, just for this.  Listening to melodies in the background of a desk covered with supplies and materials for patching together to find something new.

Oh.  I hope it happens.  So so much.  More than most things these days.

sweep awayaway

I long for uninterrupted sleep, where the sun stays away and dreams lull rather than raise.  For an ink pen and water colours in my hand to form fleurets on paper.material.life.  For whispers that say positive things all the livelongday.  To jump up and down until my teeth hurt or my breath fails and then lay on my back in the middle of the floor and look up at a ceiling fan until my heart slows down and my breath becomes a steady rhythm keeping time to the music in my head.  For friends who stay or last.  For inspiration that comes from the mundanely beautiful, like so many things I respect.  And to sweep away the remnants that disclose the same-olds and hindrances from what I have chosen and keep reminding me that there is much more.  For harmony to tingle and charm and alarm my senses to stay awake and take it all in, but in ebbs and flows, a little at a time.  For living in a living way.

redly, madly, deeply

colors present themselves.  in phases, in seasons and narrations, in memories and expressions and sensations.  march seems red to me.

on this third day of march, i am thinking that it would be nice to fit strawberries atop vanilla frozen yogurt and polka dotted patterns into my day.  i would go so far as to say, replace my day with such things.  i would rather be back on that day in august when my friend came to visit and we spent the afternoon away eating pasta, stilling the world with photographs, cooling the summer with frozen sweets, and finding a touch of simplicity and refreshment.  simplicity like abandoned capital letters. (one must take the simple where it rests)

it is an adequate wish.  only a wish, as there will be no reproducing of wonders. but we can find new ones.

daydream two

i would like to go on a trip to a quiet place and take with me a sketchbook, a story, a journal, a camera (or three), a blanket, and a pillow.  i would like to walk barefoot in sand that would not stick to my feet forever.  i would like it to be a cool day, but without breese so that my hair would not tangle.  i would like to slip away on a raft and mosey along with a song in my head (and i would know all the words) and i would not get sunburned.  i would love to find a piano in the middle of a glen filled with greengreen grass and surrounded by tall-reaching birch trees whose tops encircle and form a frame around the sky.  and i would like to sit there and play for hours, finding a new song with my fingertips and be glad for music and notes.  and letting it fill me up again and make me feel whole and beautiful and free.  and maybe my heartbeat would the the rhythm that each note falls into so that it would be a part of me, even more.  i would like to shout and have no one hear me, just because.  i would like to make a humble wish on a star or eyelash or penny in a wishing well and have it come true.  something small, but bright and right.  i would like to jump in a kayak and race to the end of a creek to see whose arms were strongest and laugh at the end, no matter what.  i would like to close my eyes.  close my eyes and fall asleep and wake refreshed again.

daydream

I want to dress in colors and textures and patterns and look like the sort of girl I think I am sometimes. I want to walk into unique coffee shops and belong there. I want to blend into my environment as if I were part of what makes it so rather than as a visitor from outside. I want to have freckles in the right places and have a sing-song voice that draws people in comfort and curiosity. I want to sit in big-armed chairs with boots and a novel and have people wonder and ask, "who is she?" I want my camera to be an expected presence that goes where I go. I want to be able to sing to myself in a public place and not worry. I want to be simply full of breath and music notes. I want to wear scarves and be romantic and subtly beautiful in a hilter-skilter way. I want to remember how to pretend and yet be me at the same time. I want to be okay with being accompanied and with being alone and be comfortable visiting kindreds without the necessity of words. I want to be content to absorb things without the need to grapple at details. I want to eat things that are beautiful and fully taste them with my soul and not just my tongue. I want to wear a dress everyday and walk barefoot and have hair that blows in the breeze at the right moments. I want to explore and travel with a pen and notebook and camera and me. I want to wear pigtails to work and that be okay. I want to feel apart from the world for brief intermissions and fully friends with it at others. I want to go on holiday and be truly on holiday.

Happy Tuesday (and daydreams)

Happy Tuesday.  I feel like I am somewhere other than where I am.  In netherworlds of cold beaches to the north.  This is where I am today, even if I am not there:

It is helpful that there are two delightfuls in my day who always take me to pretty moments with ideas and creations and poetry.

First, is beloved Megan, who cheats beauty by creating a whole new way of it. She brought with her alfalfa sprouts, an avocado, and a tomato to spread into the most beautiful sandwich. Combined with outdoor sidewalk seating, it was a short-but-sweet forty minutes of pleastly honest friendship over lunch.

Second, will be beloved Katelyn, a magic-girl who has stories and eye twinkles for sharing. We always have plans to do such-and-such and instead end up talking and laughing forever, always surprised how the time has flown away. This evening's goal is brainstorming creative projects.

May your day be filled with wonders.  Happy Tuesday, to you.
